National Bulletin
15th March, 2002 Bulletin
For those who read the papers there is always something going on (apart from the
aggravation) that is of interest and also an opening for an interested party to gather
some information for a project that they may be doing at the time. This week I had an
e-mail from Howard Hayes who is the secretary of the Royal Wires with the Two Counties
Combine over in the Warrington area. You may be able to help him with the following
request. I have recently been given a original print from a friend on the following:
"LITTLE MON" 1932 1st Section D National Flying Club San Sebastian 711 Miles
Winner of cup presented by Sir William Jury.
After reading your recent write up concerning the National Flying Club, I hope that
you would know where I would start to look to make a history of this bird. It seems such a
shame to have a picture like the one in my possession without a full history. If you
can help Howard you can contact him on howard.hayes@ntlworld,com
any help would be appreciated, if you do not have the Internet then by all means drop me a
line.
There has been a lot of concern sent my way over the HOD most of it has come from the
Northern fanciers who feel that they are being penalised when their birds are more often
than not away for the night. The pigeons that race to the North from Pau on the day are
few and far between with the 2001 season being the exception to the rule. Fanciers are
aware that the birds are not likely to get held up until lunchtime so they feel that they
are at a disadvantage but at the end of the day the Northern flyers are going to be anyway
because as mentioned day birds at around 700mls are limited. My view is that we shall have
to see how it pans out in the season and then if you disagree with the way it works all
you need to do is put in a change of rule or in this case delete a rule. This is a case of
change that many do not want but at the end of the day any change will upset someone, me
included. What I do say is do not leave your pigeons at home because of this rule, give it
a try for this year and we shall see what happens.
The races are not clashing with the Midland National a much this year and if you work
out the two clubs you can be racing in the big clubs most weeks in June and July. This is
what a lot of fanciers were after and the Alliance of Specialist clubs has contributed to
achieving this goal. It does neither club any good at all when they are clashing with
their dates so if the trend continues both clubs can benefit. Another benefit is the fact
that it looks a possibility that the International scene with the National FC is there so
more top competition on the horizon, having said that it will take a change of rules and
the vote from the members before we con move down that avenue.
I had a letter from John Tyerman about his recent lunch with the legendary Jed Jackson
to celebrate Jeds 86th birthday and I am told the he does have a very
good appetite. As you all know Jed is a big fan of the NFC and that there is no better
club around so on behalf of all the members I would like to wish him all the best, a bit
late but better late than never. I have had
the pleasure of talking to Jed on a couple of occasions and with what John has said
he may well be one to watch in this years Pau race.
The new marking team for the Farnborough marking station are Tony Hayward, Keith Mott
and John Tyerman who have requested that the markers from last year contact them with the
new season in mind. As with all marking stations the i/c would appreciate all co-operation
in running the stations as smoothly as possible. The new President Bill Harris is going to
attend the marking stations at some time during the coming season to see if there is
anything that can be done to make life easier for the workers who the club need. The
President is going to be busy because he is also hoping to attend the marking for the
Barcelona International in Belgium during June to see what happens. All information on the
possibility of International racing will be included in a report later in the year.
Do not forget if you have any news on your winners, do not be shy send it along to be
included in these Bulletins.
