For the first of the National Flying Club Young Bird Super Raffles, the NFC are very lucky in having a young bird donated by Jimmy Wearn and his brother Ken, who race as Wearn Bros. They have an outstanding record in National racing, winning the Messac national last year and just recently winning 2nd open Saintes National. They have at least seven 1st section wins from every racepoint that the NFC fly, plus many seconds and have won the National Flying Club Average Trophy, which is the hardest trophy to win in the club. He has also won the Gold Cup which again is hard to win, for the best average from the Intermediate old bird race, the Grand National and the Young Bird race.
Jim has donated a full brother or sister to his National winner which is of direct M & D Evans bloodlines, so if you are looking for birds that will win for you at all distances in the top competition, then make sure you buy your ticket for this raffle. They will be on sale at most of the marking stations, some are unable to get anyone to sell tickets, if this happens at your marking station the make sure you don't miss out, you can send for your tickets from Geoff Cooper, Dove Dale, Huddox Hill, Peasedown St John, Bath, BA2 8EA. Please make your cheques out to the NFC for however many tickets you would like @ £5 per ticket and please, don't forget your telephone number.
The lucky winner of the Tarbes Super Raffle was Paul Pym from Exeter who couldn't believe his luck to have won the young bird from Brian Sheppard, his winning ticket was purchased at the Kingsteignton marking station. The winners of the Saintes Raffle was Barry and Chris Mason who purchased their ticket from the Sheffield marking station, they were delighted to have won such a good young bird from Peter Hagland. When Barry showed Chris the ticket she saw that it was the same nuber as her birth date, so it had to be lucky – and it was!
It is hard work organising these raffles but when you ring up and tell people that they have won, the delight and joy that they feel makes it all worthwhile. So far we have had five raffles and each has been won at a different marking station, so all of you at Ash, Alveley, Ipswich, and Chichester it could be your turn next. Don't forget, if you cannot see any tickets for sale, or if you are not sending to the race, then you can send your money to Geoff for your ticket.
